In the United States, Mother’s Day is always observed on the second Sunday in May. It is also a holiday celebrated in many other countries.  This year Mother’s Day falls on Sunday, May 12, 2019.

Here are some fun facts about Mother’s Day.

In 2015, 26.4 was the average age in the United States for first-time mothers.

In its early days, people observed Mother’s Day by going to church and by writing letters to their mothers. Eventually, sending greeting cards along with giving gifts and flowers were added on to the tradition.

Mother’s Day falls right afterChristmas/Hanukkah for purchasing fresh flowers.

The average shopper spends $180on Mom!  Cards, flowers and a meal out are on top of the shopping list followed by jewelry.

A 2017 study by states that the various tasks done by mom at home during the year would tally up to over $67,000 a year in the professional.

The Mother's Day tradition was started by Anna Jarvis by wearing a carnation.  A colored carnation means that a person's mother is living.
